HOMEWORK HELPER
• www.Bartleby.com — Gosh, this site is loaded. It includes the Columbia Encyclopedia, American Heritage Dictionary, Roget's Thesaurus, and Bartlett's Famous Quotations. It's got a bunch of other things, including the King James Bible.
• www.edHelper.com — If your student needs help getting up to speed, this site is excellent. It covers reading, math, science and much more. Much of edHelper appears aimed at younger children. But there's a lot here for older kids, too.
• www.Encarta.com — This is Microsoft's encyclopedia, developed from the old Funk & Wagnalls, Collier's and the New Merit Scholar's. This is the abbreviated version. The full experience costs $30 per year. Still, there's a lot here that's free.
• www.TheFreeDictionary.com — Need to look up a word? You're at the right place! It has the American Heritage Dictionary. It also has computing, medical, legal, and financial dictionaries. There are other reference works here, too. Nearly all of it is free.
• www.TheFreeLibrary.com — This site has access to more than 3 million articles, journals and books. The range of topics is all-encompassing. All it's missing is the nice librarian with glasses.
• www.Infoplease.com — This site's slogan is "All the knowledge you need." It has a bunch of almanacs—World & News, United States, History & Government, Biography and so on. If you need statistics, this is probably the place. It also features the ubiquitous Columbia Encyclopedia.
• The Internet Public Library — Another site with much of the information found at physical libraries. The nice lady will answer questions, but she takes up to three days. It is hosted by the Drexel University's College of Information Science & Technology.
